• Navin Iyer was born and brought up in Chennai. Navin's first step into the world of music began as early as age 4.  Smt. N Kesi, a President Awardee, trained little Navin in classical music till about the age of 13.  While schooling ran parallel to music, Sri. K.V Ramanujan took over as his next guru, under whose auspices Navin Iyer staged his arangetram in the year 1998, which was presided by Dr. Balamuralikrishna.
  • Choosing to do Electronics & Communication Engineering at Hindustan College of Engineering, gave him not just the opportunity to emerge as a successful engineer but also laid the stones for a robust career in music. Inter collegiate cultural shows, paved way for this prodigious player to grab the light.  Having bagged the ‘Best Instrumentalist’ award at IIT’s Saarang, for three consecutive years, is proof enough
  • His music career kicked off with ad-jingles and film-recordings for regional languages.   Realizing his true calling for music, he streamlined the transition from being an amateur to becoming a professional.  For this, he took up training in Western classical under Mr. Balakrishnan. With industry associations demanding versatility, he procured a variety of custom-made flutes.  Today, Navin Iyer has the mastery to play practically any wind instrument.

  • Navin Iyer's biggest break in the film industry was through the Tamil movie Veyil, with music composer G.V Prakash, for the song Veyilodu Vilayadi. Since then, there has been no looking back for this maestro.

    His key accomplishment in the industry include a humungous number of about 4000 recordings. Apart from film industry, Navin is also involved in several international collaborations.
  • Navin Iyer, the musician has gone farther than film music and has many music collaborations to his credit.  Fusion based associations with renowned artistes such as Sri Vikku Vinayakram, Sri. Kadri Gopalnath, Smt. Bombay Jayashri and city based pianist Mr. Anil Srinivasan and UK based artiste Mr. James Asher are some of the takeaways.  Association with EarthSync, a world-music record label has drawn recognition from world audience.
  • Three, an album of his collaboration with Sri. D.A Srinivas and Sri. Raghavendra Rao, features the use of classical instruments to attempt other genres of music such as Irish folk.  The album has been released in South Africa and is soon due for release in India.

    An eternal learner, Navin draws his inspirations from Karl Jenkins, Yani, Ilayaraja, RD Burman, SD Burman, Bach & Chopin. His favorite genre of music is World Music.
